ADI Part 3 Identify The Fault Using MSPSGL

When it comes to the ADI Part 3 and ADI Standards Check being able to identify the faults that a student makes is the key to passing.

But with so many possible things that can go wrong, how can we tell the mistakes that the pupil may make?

EASY!!

By getting to know the MSPSGL routine

Identifying the fault mirrors.

When it comes to identifying the faults with mirrors, you need to be watching the student.

So for instance, when you're turning the left.

Does the Pupil check Centre and left mirror? Before turning right and putting the right signal on, do they check the centre and right mirror?

Before accelerating. Do they check the centre and right mirror? Before slowing down, do they check the centre mirror?

Also When turning left. Did I check just the left mirror? Do they just check the right mirror when turning right?

Signal.

Do they signal in good time? Do they signal too early? Do they signal too late? When they're turning left, do they put the right signal on?

When they're turning right, do they put the left signal on? Do they signal to go round parked vehicles? Before pulling up on the left. Do they do mirrors and signal?

But Signal can also include things like waving people across the road. Accelerating quickly, then breaking. Constantly pressing the brake pedal.

Position.

What's their normal driving position? Are they too close to the curb? And constantly driving in the drain covers.

Are they driving on the centre white line? New paragraph when they turn right. Do they go to just by the centre white line or do they keep to the left of the lane? If they're on a roundabout, do they keep in their lane or do they just take the shortest route across?

Speed.

Are they too fast on approach? Are they too slow on approach?

Being over cautious? What speed do they need to be at?

You need to give them an idea.

In general driving, do they know the speed limit and how to tell what they are?

Gears.

Driving the essential skill says to bring the car. Down to the required speed and then pick the gear that is suitable for that speed.

So if turning left, you would slow the vehicle down if approaching in 3rd gear. They should slow down to less than 20 miles an hour. Then you would go into second gear. And lift the clutch up. To provide engine breaking.

This way the pupil is not going around the corner in 3rd gear and the car is juddering. But also, they're not going round the corner coasting with the clutch down and desperately trying to get into second gear at the same time.

Look.

So with everything else Done The pupil now has time to look at the turn that they're making.

Whether it be left or right, to see if there's any parked vehicles on approach, any pedestrians crossing the road.

They can also look at where the point of turn is and then follow the curb around.
